What is the Light Emitting Diode(L.E.D.) ?

Light Emitting Diode(L.E.D.) :-

Light emitting diode is a special diodes, when forward biased; they emit light of particular colour. LEDs heavily doped pn junctions diodes. The colour of light emitted is depends upon band gap of material used in manufacturing of LEDs.

  • ü Advantages of LEDs :-
  •       i.            LEDs are chip.
  •   ii.            LEDs requires low operating voltages and low power.
  • iii.            They have longer life and light weight.
  • iv.            They have high operating speed.
  •    v.            Different spectral colour outputs are possible.

  • ü Uses of LEDs. :-
  •       i.            LEDs are used as status indicator on various instruments.
  •   ii.            Used in advertising boards, rolling displays in offices, banks, railways stations, airports, etc.
  • iii.             LEDs are used in traffic control system.
  • iv.             LEDs are used in optical fiber communication as light           source.
  •    v.            They are used as brake indicator in bikes and vehicles.
  • vi.            Used in Seven-Segment Display Unit, which is used to display output of various instruments in decimal digit format.
