Basic terms
to understand the principle of communication system :-
- v Signal:- A electrical form of information. Information converted in electrical form and suitable for transmission is called a signal.
- v Transmitter:-
A transmitter converts a signal produced by the source of information into a
suitable form of transmission through a channel and subsequent reception.
- v Transducer:-
Any device that convert one form of energy into another form.
- v Attenuation:- The loss of strength of a signal while propagation through a medium is known as
Attenuation.
- v Amplification:- The process of increasing the amplitude of a signal using an electronic circuit
called the amplifier.
- v Noise:-
Noise is random, undesirable electric energy that enters the communication via
the communication medium and interferes with transmitted massage.
- v Receiver:-
A receiver extract signals at the
channel output.
- v Range:- The maximum distance between a source and a destination upto which the signal is received with sufficient strength is termed as range.
- v Bandwidth:- The frequency range over which an equipment operates or portion of the spectrum
occupied by the signal is referred as bandwidth.
- v Modulation:- The process of superimposing a low frequency signal on a high frequency wave,
which acts as carrier waves for long distance transmission is known as
modulation.
- v Demodulation: -
The process of regaining of information from carrier wave at the receiver is termed
as demodulation.
- v Repeater:-
A repeater is a combination of receiver
and transmitter. It used for extend the rang of communication system.
